About the Show
A series offering the most comprehensive account of the Victoria Cross, Britain's highest award for gallantry. The opening programme focuses on the VCs awarded during the 19th century, from its hugely popular instigation by Queen Victoria in 1856, after the Crimean War, up to the Boer War at the turn of the century. The Victoria Cross was immediately taken to heart, its winners becoming celebrities equivalent to contemporary pop stars and footballers. The programme includes dramatic reconstructions of the battle at Rorke's Drift, the Indian Mutiny and the Crimea.
