Trouble in Amish Paradise

About the Show

Lancaster County, Pennsylvania is the site of the first Amish settlement in the United States and is now home to over 30,000 Amish. The Amish have changed very little since their arrival in the US almost 300 years ago. They adhere to a strict dress code, which favours simplicity and excludes vanity, they use no electricity or cars and avoid modern technology. However, the world around them has changed a great deal, and their culture exists uneasily within America's consumer society. This documentary follows the Weavertown Amish and its community of 30 families - from people living the pure and simple Amish life to families recently excommunicated or 'shunned' for disobeying the religion's strict rules.
