About the Show
Our understanding of the last 60 million years comes from two centuries of discovery and research by palaeontologists, and much of what the world knows about the age of mammals was found beneath a vast landscape in America’s heartland. While programmes about prehistoric animals are typically dominated by dinosaur tales, a vast array of exotic mammals reigned supreme after dinosaurs ceased to exist. From colossal Titanotheres and Mammoths to tiny Leptocyon dogs and rodents, they’re every bit as fascinating – but their story is relatively unknown. This stunning documentary brings us into a prehistoric world when mammals reigned supreme and invites viewers on a fossil safari that reveals how changing climate transformed North America from hot, wet forests to frozen grasslands.
