The Blues: The Soul of a Man

Part 2 of 7 - Next Episode

In this second film, Director Wim Wenders explores the blues via the lives and music of three of his favourite blues artists: Skip James, Blind Willie Johnson and JB Lenoir. The film tells the story of these lives in music through an extended fictional film sequence, rare archival footage and present-day documentary scenes.

There are also covers of their songs by contemporary musicians including Nick Cave, Los Lobos, James 'Blood' Ulmer, Lou Reed, Bonnie Raitt, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion and T-Bone Burnett.
