Special When Lit

Special When Lit

This nostalgic documentary provides the definitive story of the rise and fall of the pinball machine.

During the 1950s and 60s, pinball made more money than Hollywood. It swept the world and became the epitome of cool, but today, many children don’t even know what a pinball machine is.

However, all is not lost... Special When Lit reveals that there still exists a faithful subculture keeping the iconic game alive. Known as ‘pinheads’, these fans, collectors, designers and champion players have never forgotten what made their favourite pastime great. The predominantly middle-aged men who make up this fraternity like nothing better than heading to their local bar for a game or choosing which to play from their basement collection.

In this nostalgic, whimsical and often touching tale, these devoted fans open up about their passion for the addictive game that can never be won.
