Goat Rodeo Sessions

The term Goat Rodeo describes an apparently chaotic event that depends on just about everything going absolutely right to have any chance whatsoever of succeeding. This is certainly an apt description for this collaboration between four virtuosi from the seemingly incompatible worlds of classical and bluegrass music.

It is probably fair to state that that would be hard to find four musicians more likely to make such a project work. Classical cellist Yo-Yo Ma, bluegrass fiddler Stuart Duncan, bassist Edgar Meyer and mandolin wizard Chris Thile are all prominent figures in their own musical genres but share a common desire to explore pastures new.

Recorded at Boston's House of Blues in January 2012, this concert was the quartet’s first public appearance. Featuring an eclectic range of material from Johann Sebastian Bach to traditional folk melodies, this is a remarkable tour de force by four musicians at the top of their game.
