FRONTLINE: Football High
American Football is one of the world's most lucrative sports yet it seems to be an all-or-nothing event, with players groomed at high school either for top-flight professional success or nothing - there are no minor leagues in the AFL.
With such a rarefied culture and huge corporate sponsorship deals at risk, pressure has grown on the school teams to up their game. Players perform more like the big league, trained and bulked up to be bigger, stronger and faster than ever, but at what cost?
FRONTLINE follows the ‘Saints’ of Shiloh Christian School in Arkansas as, armed with a star quarterback, they aim to join the top-ranked high school teams. But is weak regulation putting children’s lives at risk in pursuit of sporting glory?
